Tavern’s story is ironic. He was adopted at the age of one at the mustang adoption event in Swanzey in 2009. He was not abused, but severely neglected: His owners loved him, but had no resources or knowledge to properly care for him. He was fed nothing but bread for four years, received no medical attention, was never trained, and didn’t even have a paddock to walk around in. He was surrendered to Horse Tenders in June of 2014.
Tavern’s recovery and training is a joy to watch. He is sweet and innocent, a happy, warm and sociable horse. In fact, that is why he was named him Tavern, because of the thought that pubs as places where people are happy and sociable. But the women at Horse Tenders call him a total love bug.
He is still amazed at “pasture”—all that grass! All that space! Other horses for friends! His innocent delight in these everyday pleasures will warm your heart, too. Tavern is being trained, and he makes steady progress. He would be a delightful family horse—good with children, good at trail-riding, happy to be petted and believing that everyone loves him. And he’s absolutely right.
